read The Road to Wigan Pier and you’ll realize that using Nineteen Eighty-Four as yr only gauge for Orwell’s fears about the direction of society is bullshit. in Wigan Pier he discusses, at length, his fears about the world becoming a paradise for lazy little fat men. Nineteen Eighty-Four was written at a time right after there had been a huge movement toward the kind of controlled, fascist society the book’s about. it was very real threat. the europe of the forties was a very different place from the united states of 2011. to say that Orwell was “wrong” because America has gone in te direction of Brave New World rather than Nineteen Eighty-Four is ignoring all of this. and keep in mind that Huxley had very little command of the english language and relied on his cool ideas, while Orwell could write about literally anything and make the reader care. good writing here, though. no complaints about that at all.

Were one of the very first bands I fell in love with and to hear the news today they are calling it quits for real breaks my middle school heart. I am listening to Fell in Love With A Girl now and brings back memories. I am one of the lucky few who got to see them LIVE that experience I will never forget, general admission at The Greek Theatre in Berekeley 2005 I still have the concert bootleg t-shirt. Oh how you will be missed.

i still have my shirt from that show, too. this is truly a sad day.
